Weatherproof Power Distribution Box for Outdoor Sites
Weatherproof is a working description, not a rating. What matters on site is the IP code to IEC 60529: the first digit covers solids, the second covers water. An IP65 box is dust tight and withstands water jets, which suits wash-down and heavy rain; IP67 survives short immersion, which is what a site at risk of standing water actually needs.
We treat the enclosure as a system: body and door, gasket, hinges and latches, cable glands and plugs. A perfectly sealed enclosure fitted with unrated glands still lets water in, so every entry point is matched to the same rating.
Materials, Sealing and Heat
Outdoor boxes fail for two reasons: water getting in, and heat not getting out. A sealed enclosure holds its own losses, so the internal temperature has to be calculated, not assumed.

How the Weather Protection Is Verified
- Enclosure protection is declared to IEC 60529 and confirmed on the finished assembly, with the door closed and all glands fitted.
- Gaskets are checked for compression and continuity around the full door perimeter before dispatch.
- Hinges, latches and fasteners are stainless, so the box still opens after a season outdoors.
- Assemblies follow IEC 61439-1 and IEC 61439-2, with temperature rise considered against the sealed volume.
- Routine tests: protective earth continuity, insulation resistance, RCD trip time, polarity and a functional check of each way.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is IP65 enough for outdoor use?
For most outdoor event and industrial use, IP65 is sufficient: dust tight and resistant to water jets. If the box may sit in standing water, or the site floods, specify IP67 and raise the box on a plinth or stand.
Will a sealed box overheat?
It can. A sealed enclosure dissipates heat only through its surface, so the internal losses, ambient temperature and sun exposure have to be calculated together. Where the margin is tight we add a sun shield, a larger body, or a fan and filter arrangement rated to the same IP.
Can you supply the box with plugs to match?
Yes. IP-rated plugs, sockets and glands are supplied with the box so the rating is maintained end to end. We will confirm the connector type against your existing cables before production.
